This little stoneware vessel is from the early 1900s used by Boston manufacturer H. A. Johnson & Co. for bakers & confectioners supplies. I'm imagining its life -- filled to the brim with vanilla, transported here to Charleston, and lovingly poured into hundreds of our southern delicacies. And, after many decades on someone else's shelf, it made its way to an estate sale where i snapped it up! Of course my first thought was it needed to be showcased in a still life. :)
