When John Carroll Doyle passed, I was fortunate enough to add a few pieces from his studio to mine. This footed clay vase is one of those pieces. I paired it with a sweet little book from 1940 entitled, How to Draw Birds by Raymond Sheppard - opened to a page featuring various sketches of wandering and resting Oyster Catchers. All of this set against the background of black gesso.
